American tenor Hugh Smith has been heralded at the great opera houses of Europe as well as the important opera houses and concert halls of the United States. February 2008 marked his debut with the Israeli Philharmonic under Zubin Mehta as Don Carlo, about which the Israeli critics wrote “The phenomenal voice of Hugh Smith in the principal role of Don Carlo takes the audience aback. Smith, a heroic tenor, does wonders with his voice from every point of view, either forceful or brilliant.” Ha’aretz.
