James Paul is widely acclaimed as one of North America’s most distinguished conductors. Mr. Paul has served as music director and conductor of the Baton Rouge Symphony, principal guest Conductor of the Louisiana Philharmonic, associate conductor of the Kansas City Symphony and Milwaukee Symphony, conducting fellow of the St. Louis Symphony, and artistic advisor to the Tulsa Phillharmonic. Mr. Paul currently holds permanent positions as music director and conductor of the Oregon Festival of American Music and music director of the Oregon Coast Music Festival, which he has held since 1990. After six seasons as principal conductor of the Grant Park Music Festival, he also served as artistic director of the Sewance Summer Festival from 2006 to 2009.

Highlights of the season 2013-2014 include the appearances with the Louisiana Philharmonic, giving the premier of Jake Runestad’s Dreams of the Fallen in the US Veterans Day, and Phoenix Symphony featuring Elgar’s Symphony No. 1 and Mendelssohn Violin Concerto alongside Karen Gomyo. … Full bio on Oregon Coast Music Festival Site
