We are ONE WEEK from releasing two major albums! Both are so exciting in their own right that it is hard to choose which to talk about first! Also exciting is that these albums have something for our eco-conscious fans. Both of these albums will be in eco-friendly Digipaks, so you’ll have a little different look on your RR shelf!
Did we mention that in ONE WEEK (9/14) we will be releasing the first album on our new sublabel FRESH! From Reference Recordings!?! The Curios Pillow Book creates a quirky and beautifully complex musical universe. Others have described this music as freak-folk-funk-psychedelic-cabaret, a juicy blend of mystery-rich, textural grooves and cliché-free lyrics, alternately abstract and narrative!
Award winning singer/songwriters and multi-instrumentalists Nancy Hall (background singer with Neil Young & Crazy Horse) and Lee Parvin are the creative core of The Curios. Their song “Hope for the Modern Man” won in the folk category of the first-ever John Lennon Songwriting contest; Ani Difranco was a judge.
Besides singing backing vocals with Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Nancy Hall has toured with the likes of Emmy Lou Harris and Lucinda Williams.

But that’s not all! On the same day (Christmas in September?), we’ll be releasing another HDCD album of Jazz!
Pied Piper features:
12 Original Mike Garson Compositions on HDCD Digitally Remastered from Original Analogue Tapes.
Jim Walker on flute with Mike Garson on piano, in a crystalline-pure recording of soothing, meditative jazz entitled Pied Piper.
This project was previously issued as 45 rpm audiophile LP in 1985 and CD in 1992: RR-18 “Reflections,” long out of print and now collectible!
Pianist Mike Garson is best known as long-time music director for David Bowie and is perhaps the most versatile pianist working today.
Jim Walker, a dynamic soloist, is a legendary orchestral and studio musician, celebrated jazz flutist, and an inspiration to countless students worldwide.
“Pianist Mike Garson and flutist Jim Walker, both with jazz and classical backgrounds and experience, came together on this project to present songs that reflected both their backgrounds. The results are often musically impressive…As with all Reference releases, it’s superbly engineered and sounds wonderful.” – Ron Wynn, All Music Guide
